  • Eating candy, sugary snacks or other foods with high sugar content results in high levels of sugar entering the bloodstream. This also applies to refined carbohydrates, which are quickly broken down into sugars in the body. Once in the blood, the sugars stick to proteins in a process called glycation, which creates compounds that have a negative impact on the skin.

Foods with high sugar content play havoc with insulin levels in the blood, which raises the levels of androgen, a hormone. High levels of androgen cause the skin to sag and become less supple. The history of Sugar.

The average American consumes an astounding 2-3 pounds of sugar each week, which is not surprising. Considering that highly refined sugars in the form of sucrose (table sugar), dextrose (corn sugar), and high-fructose corn sugar are being processed into so many foods such as bread, breakfast cereal, mayonnaise, peanut butter, ketchup, spaghetti sauce, and a plethora of microwave meals.

In the last 20 years, we have increased sugar consumption in the US 26 pounds to 135 lbs. of sugar per person per year! Prior to the turn of this century (1887-1890), the average consumption was only 5 lbs. per person per year! Cardiovascular disease and cancer was virtually unknown in the early 1900’s.

I know that in our present day, we are so pressed for time, that we have become a society of whatever is fast and easy is the only solution for our meals.
