Causes of Low Energy, Fatigue & Exhaustion
When you have low energy or deal with fatigue and exhaustion, we are unable to perform tasks with Enthusiasm. We end up mentally, emotionally and physically tired. Overwhelm takes over which is that all encompassing urge to avoid every task at hand. We would rather be anywhere but
work, school or even a party. Some go straight for the “I don’t care” response and others whine and act sleepy. More and more people are resorting to short naps when we used to think they were only for babies or the elderly.
How does the body act when energy is lacking?
When that Optimum Health is a distant past we start to wonder what happened? We start to experience symptoms:
- joint pain
- water retention
- candida & impacted mucous membranes
- weight gain
- an imbalance of blood sugar levels
- food allergies appear
- sex hormones become imbalanced
- and a whole lot more!!
What causes so much fatigue, overwhelm, tiredness and low energy?
If we do not digest our foods properly, we cannot replenish our Vitamins, Minerals or Amino Acids. Many complain of an “over full” feeling and tiredness after they eat a meal. Being fatigued after you eat is from not only choosing the wrong foods but being unable to digest them properly. Children in school are now having rotating classes because the first class after lunch they were scoring the lowest marks and interacting the least. The true answer would be to reconsider what they are consuming instead of changing a class.
When you have poor digestion larger food particles enter your bowels. Those particles irritate the walls of your gut which leads to “Leaky Gut Syndrome”. You can tell if you have it as the bacteria eat off those large particles causing you to experience bloat and flatulence. When your gut is healthy, you are able to transfer all your nutrients through the walls. If the walls are damaged so are the protein carriers leaving the bloodstream nutrient deficient.
Just as Poor Nutrition leads to Poor Nutrient Absorption, we can have Reflux and Gerd from low stomach acid. We are also more susceptible to the ramifications of high exposure to pollutants, toxins and alcohol.
What Causes Toxin Overload?

Toxins are everywhere and they continuously stress out the body. That body stress manifests into Allergies.
A definition of Allergies can be any Idiosyncratic Reaction where the Immune System is Involved. A response for some when eating shellfish or peanuts is very obvious and thus the development of the Epi Pen for immediate “Adrenal” trigger. Others have more chronic issues that present themselves as;
- Eczema / Psoriasis
- Intestinal Disorders
There are many “Metabolic Antagonists” which is just another way to describe different “Allergies”. Many in the medical professions consider Allergies to be non-curable. In the alternative side of this we have found that Metabolic Antagonism is caused by one or more combinations of Nutrient Deficiencies. Allergies lead into the next Energy Drainer which we experience in a mental, physical and emotional capacity.
We produce many different hormones that actually work continuously to keep our bodies in balance. We have insulin and glucagon to keep our blood sugars stable; cortisol and adrenalin give us the fuel to react to stressors; thyroxine controls our metabolism; many produced by our pituitary gland that orchestrates our sex hormones as well as keeping us active and balanced on a daily basis.
When we take in stimulants and toxins it stresses out the body and in turn it produces more cortisol. Cortisol also competes for the receptor sites that hold progesterone which lowers the active state of this hormone. Cortisol also increases the production of estrogen of which the liver has to deal with the excess. When you multiply the situation with Toxins, Allergies, Poor Food Digestion and Absorption, the liver’s ability to detoxify becomes impaired.
Stress creates a disturbance in how the body makes, distributes and balances sex hormones leaving both men and women with chronic issues such as PMS, PCOS, Excess Facial Hair, Prostate Problems, Mood, Weight Gain and Cancers. Diets high in Sugar and Carbohydrates stress out the body’s ability to keep blood sugar levels stable and this is known as dysglycemia. When you consume sugary carbs, the blood sugar level shoots up and the body in turn produces more insulin to try and balance. When the body’s blood sugar levels drop to low, it will produce excess cortisol to try and rectify the imbalance. If we are not fleeing from danger, we produce fat cells to house the excess cortisol and store it in our mid sections. The fat that everyone stresses out about which creates more of the same result. Stop worrying and do something productive about it! This back and forth from insulin to cortisol is called Syndrome X. Many mid life men and women suffer from this. That is where a lot of the excess medication consumption comes from. We put on weight even though we are not eating more calories. Syndrome X effects are seen later in life when we are less active and it can be our poor diets, lifestyle changes, physical body stress brought on by inflammatory ailments that lend us more apt to have diabetes, weight gain, and imbalanced hormone problems form estrogen dominance.
Too much Stress, Sugar/Carbohydrate Consumption, Stimulants like coffee seem to make our health levels worse. This makes us more prone to the Inflammatory Ailments such as:
- Rheumatoid Arthritis
- Osteo Arthritis
Which leads me to the Number 1 reason for poor energy;
This is the main reason that people strive to improve their Energy. If like any working machine, if the fuel levels are low, those parts undernourished will malfunction. Without properly functioning systems you are unable to absorb nutrients back into those body systems that need to constantly replenish even if you have the best diet.
The doctor is at a loss when blood work or x-rays fail to show anything wrong. It is hard to fix something you can’t see. Medicine for the most part doesn’t approve or recommend many vitamins. They may say just take a multi or vitamin D but this doesn’t even touch the surface of correcting the internal problems. Ultimately you end up on some sort of anti-depressant because you can’t sleep and a steroid because you are in pain. Now you begin a wonderful chain reaction of symptoms that require more medications. This is one train wreck waiting to happen. Even if you do require a medication, you can still work on the main issue at hand.
Many diabetics require insulin and still work on all the other areas to support the effects of so much insulin in the body. You can help to keep the rest of your body systems by working on relieving the major stressors.

A little restraint or new eating habits will keep you from falling down the rabbit hole of doctors, prescriptions, symptoms, more doctor visits, more medications for all those side effects, etc. Be brave and inquire. Don’t end up a victim or at the mercy of medications or medical exploratory fixes like many of the older generation.
