Myths about Calcium

Why does everyone think that the only way to get Calcium in your diet is by drinking milk or eating cheese and yogurt? The one thing you do need to know the next time you try to force your children or yourself to drink milk is that it is not the best source. Pasteurization destroys more than 32 percent of the calcium availability. If you take Tums or other antacids to get Calcium, that is a poor

choice. If you do not have enough stomach acid or Vitamin C you are not absorbing well enough. Also, you can take too much Calcium. Have you ever heard of “hardening of the arteries”? Excess calcium clogs your arteries and predisposes you to heart disease.
